New Position: Visiting Assistant Professor at the Keck Science Department for Scripps, Claremont McKenna, and Pitzer Colleges.
In June 2021, I defended my Ph.D. July 1st, I started my new position as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Keck Science Department for Scripps, Claremont McKenna, and Pitzer Colleges. I will be teaching general chemistry and advanced laboratory classes. I am so excited for this next adventure!
Biography
I grew up in a town of less than 5,000 people in Northern California. I attended the local community college where I fell in love with chemistry. In my second year, I served as the supplemental instructor for the general chemistry course, working in an active learning classroom with students from a diverse group of ages and socio-economic backgrounds. I transferred to UC Davis where I worked with Professor Casey studying mineral formation in an environmental geochemistry laboratory. In 2014, I received my B.S. in Chemistry and began working at Genentech in Vacaville. I worked on the inventory management team and learned cGMP documentation standards. After a year, I moved to Los Angeles and worked at Ventura Community College and El Camino Community College in the stock rooms. In both positions, I updated the safety protocols to meet OSHA standards, revamped their inventory management system, and prepared the chemical materials for the classes.
In 2016, I returned to graduate school at the University of Southern California where I worked with Professor Benderskii and Professor Melot. My research focused on understanding the relationship between the structure of a material and its properties at the interface. To do this, I used an ultrafast nonlinear spectroscopy technique called Vibrational Sum Frequency Generation spectroscopy. I was a 2018 NSF GRFP Fellow and a 2018 GEM Fellow. I was a board member of USC's SACNAS chapter throughout my graduate school career. In Spring of 2021, I started a chemical education project with Dr. Jessica Parr to study how students view chemistry in the world around them. In June 2021, I defended my Ph.D.
I started a position as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Keck Science Department for Scripps, Claremont McKenna, and Pitzer Colleges. Here I will continue my chemical education research as well as teach general chemistry and advanced laboratory classes.
